Why Whitstable?
Whitstable is the loveliest seaside town on the North Kent coast. It is famous for its oysters, and still has a working harbour, with fishing boats and a number of popular fishmarkets.
It is a unique combination of traditional and contemporary with charming architecture, a thriving arts culture and a rich maritime history. The main streets are full of craft and gift shops, art galleries, delicatessans and fashion boutiques – all interspersed with traditional butchers, fishmongers, bakers and greengrocers.
There's lots to do in and around Whitstable for all ages and interests. Here is just a selection:
- Miles of pebble and sandy beaches lined with pretty, colourful beach huts
- A wide range of water sports from sailing and kite surfing, to kayaks and waterskiing, plus a variety of boat trips
- Lovely coastal walks from Seasalter to Reculver, passing the stunning cliff top lawns of the Tankerton slopes. Don't miss the simply beautiful tea gardens, possibly the most glorious place to relax on a sunny afternoon
- Seafood lovers can enjoy the many restaurants and pubs serving fish and shellfish, especially the famous Whitstable oysters
The Garden of England
